Dance and Education: A Natural Educational Pair

Wed Jun 17, 11:45 AM–12:45 PM · ALP 1600

Dance is often not considered to be a modality for academic expression. However, as all dancers know, one can make a dance about anything. My Ignite talk will dive into dance-based academic learning, an understudied method of education that could have large benefits for students. I will explain dance educational methods, grounded in my experience being trained by and working with the Dance Education Laboratory, and how these methods naturally lend themselves to being a mode of expression for all academic subjects, particularly English Language Arts. I will also discuss my experience teaching German Syntax, morphological awareness, and fundamental math skills through movement.
