Juneteenth Book Club
You are cordially invited to the Juneteenth Book Club hosted at ICLS 2026. In reverence of the Juneteenth national holiday in the United States on June 19th, we will be hosting a book study of On Juneteenth and On Tyranny— two relatively short but powerful texts. For the book study, we will read a few chapters to ground a discussion of abolitionist and liberatory projects. (The selected chapters are quite modest in length.) Our aim is to commemorate Juneteenth as an international community and connect with the 2026 conference theme, Partnering with Purpose, by exploring the meanings of collective struggle against powerful, unjust forces during difficult times in our field, our work, and our lives. Details of the Event The Juneteenth Book Club will be held across two days during the conference, with a third post-conference discussion tentatively planned for July. Location: ALP 2600 (June 17&18) Fully Online (July 3) Time: Wednesday, June 17th, from 4:15 pm – 5 pm PST Thursday, June 18th from 4:15 pm – 5 pm PST Friday, July 3rd from 8 am – 9 am PST For the first thirty participants, paperback copies of the two books, On Juneteenth and On Tyranny, will be gifted.
