CSCL Symposium | cY_AI-PARTNER | Designing AI Partner-embedded Learning Environments to Support AI Literacies

Wed Jun 17, 8:00 AM–9:30 AM · ALP 2nd Floor Rear

As AI technologies become increasingly integrated into schools, questions arise about what students should learn about AI and how AI-powered tools can support collaborative learning. This symposium reports on the Institute of Student-AI Teaming (iSAT), which designs AI partners and curricular activity systems to promote AI literacy and collaboration. Unlike most classroom AI tools designed for 1:1 interactions, iSAT develops AI partners as social collaborators that both facilitate group learning and serve as objects of inquiry—helping students “look under the hood” of AI systems. Our multi-year co-design process across three U.S. states engages teachers, students, and parents to build integrated systems of curriculum, technology, and professional learning. The symposium’s six posters span AI design, infrastructure, curriculum, and teacher learning, illustrating how AI can be productively embedded within classroom collaboration. Together, they advance understanding of how AI systems can meaningfully support and transform collaborative learning.
