#1119: Profiling Self-Regulated Learners in Flipped Project-Based Learning: A Person-Centered Analysis in Higher Education
While flipped project-based learning (PBL) shows promise for developing self-regulated learning (SRL), students engage with these environments heterogeneously. Using person-centered analysis with 84 higher education students across four courses, we identified three distinct SRL profiles—Foundational Regulators (52%), Strategic Regulators (29%), and Expert Self-Navigators (19%)—each requiring differentiated instructional support. Our SRPBL framework, developed through research-practice partnership, demonstrates significant pre-post gains (d=0.61–0.83) while revealing that one-size-fits-all implementation leaves over half of students with minimal SRL development. We provide evidence-based design recommendations for differentiated SRPBL implementation targeting each profile’s developmental needs.
