#93: Teachers’ Evolving Sentiments and Competencies about Generative AI in Social Media Discourse: A Case Study on X
This study examines teachers’ evolving sentiments and competencies regarding Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) by analyzing teacher-authored posts on X (formerly Twitter) in 2023 and 2025. Combining qualitative content analysis with automated and manual sentiment analysis, the research is guided by the UNESCO AI Competency Framework for Teachers (AI CFT) and Zhai’s teacher agency framework. The study contributes to the CSCL discourse by framing X as a space for informal, collaborative learning. Within this environment, educators share experiential insights and articulate evolving visions of GenAI as a collaborator in their pedagogical practice and professional development. Findings indicate a gradual shift toward more positive and practice-oriented engagement, though concerns about agency, accountability, and professional responsibility remain. A significant link between sentiment and competency suggests that emotional stance shapes readiness to adopt GenAI. The study informs professional development strategies aligned with AI CFT curricular goals, promoting ethical and human-centered GenAI integration in education.
