ICLS Symposium | iY-19_MAKER-EDUCATION | Insights from International Partnerships on Infrastructuring for Maker Education

Thu Jun 18, 10:00 AM–11:30 AM · ALP 2nd Floor Rear

Maker education is a disruptive innovation spreading globally, fundamentally challenging schooling by shifting focus from abstract ideas to creating and sharing tangible artifacts. Often driven by grassroots enthusiasm rather than top-down mandates, this diffusion lacks corresponding supportive infrastructure from established systems, posing a timely question: What can be learned about the infrastructures and infrastructuring processes required to support the integration of maker learning? Maker education offers an opportunity to employ infrastructuring as a conceptual lens and strategy to analyze the inherent tensions between this movement and formal schooling. This structured poster symposia embodies the Annual Meeting's theme, Partnering with Purpose. It convenes international research groups who actively collaborate with local stakeholders to share diverse insights from their efforts to integrate maker learning into school systems. By illuminating these infrastructuring processes, we aim to inform a more robust theory of sustainable, systemic change within the Learning Sciences.
