#634: Student Perceptions of Creativity Within the Social Ecosystems of Major Fields of Study

Fri Jun 19, 8:00 AM–9:30 AM · ALP 1120

Creativity is an important topic from political, social, and educational perspectives and is meaningful across major fields of study. Little is known about how students understand themselves as creative actors within university ecosystems, nor the ways they perceive their actions and processes as creative within their majors. By applying the five A’s model of creativity, this study positions creativity in the social and material world of the university. Findings include biases that hamper creativity and the affordances of engaging interests and choice, with implications for designing creative spaces, and academic supports for students across disciplines, empowering their future creative contributions in their fields and careers.
