#1397: Learning in Balance: Cultural Jewellery as Knowledge Carrier
Learning in Balance explores how learning can be sensed through the body, materials, and cultural symbols. Inspired by John P. Miller’s philosophy of holistic education, the project translates the Taoist concept of Yin and Yang into an embodied model of learning that balances intuition and analysis, body and mind, art and science. The jewellery series draws on Chinese traditional constellations from Taiji Yin-Yang to the Four Symbols, and the Twenty-Eight constellations. In this framework, Taiji represents wholeness, Yin-Yang reflects cycles of action and reflection, the Four Symbols suggest different modes of learning, and the constellations evoke interconnected knowledge networks. Through wearable jewellery art forms, abstract educational knowledge becomes tactilely embedded experiences. NFC tags connect the pieces to digital reflections, inviting audiences to consider where Balance appears in their own learning and interact in the digital space. Jewellery becomes a cultural knowledge carrier where learning can be worn, felt, and remembered.
