#1334: MOVE about it: getting groups thinking together through movement

Thu Jun 18, 2:30 PM–4:00 PM · ALP 3700

We are a group of Learning Scientists, Dancer-Choreographers, Scientists, & friends who have breathed together, danced together, and learned a lot together over the past 4 years as the design team on the Choreographing Science Project. We designed for expansive embodied learning between middle schoolers and scientists, curious as to how dancing together might destabilize epistemic hierarchies. We began from a starting point that any movement can be dance and any dance can support collective learning. We value a continual uplifting of moving bodies, a dedication to creativity, a rigorous practice of empathy, and an openness for change. We produced a deck of movement prompt cards—MOVE about it—to capture our flavor of supporting groups to create improvisational choreography. If we need to move in order to know then the best way to share what we know is to move about it with others.
