#1399: Empowering Learner Agency in Writing with GenAI: A Web-based Platform
Recent advances in Generative AI (GenAI) have led to increasing attention in how chatbots and agentic tools may support students’ self-regulated learning (SRL). However, existing works primarily focus on short-term interventions on adult learners, offering limited insights into how GenAI can meaningfully foster SRL and learner agency in K-12 education. To address this gap, we introduce GAILA, a writing platform that integrates stage-specific AI agents with real-time learning analytics dashboards (LADs) to support the forethought, performance, and reflection phases of SRL. For students, GAILA offers structured writing workflows, task-aligned AI agents, and real-time analytics to encourage informed self-monitoring and behavioral adjustments. For teachers, GAILA provides fine-grained configurations of writing stages and agent visibility for pedagogical control. Together, these features enable sustained, classroom-integrated use of GenAI tools and open opportunities for research on how GenAI can support SRL among secondary school students.
