#1287: SciStory: A Demo of AI-Supported Socioscientific Learning through Visual Novels

Thu Jun 18, 4:15 PM–5:45 PM · ALP 1600

Our tool demo will explore intersections between narrative-centered learning, AI agents as inquiry scaffolds, and the interdisciplinary exploration of socioscientific issues. We will share our current design of SciStory: Pollinators, an interactive visual novel designed to support middle grades students in developing persuasive arguments to solve socioscientific problems in their community. Discussion will explore how we balance ethical issues around generative AI in our agent design, leverage co-design practices to iteratively improve collaborative game features, and draw on principles from problem-based learning to engage learners in developing solutions for complex socioscientific issues.
