#1413: Seeing in 360°: Practical and Theoretical Insights for Video Recording in Learning Sciences Research
This full-day workshop addresses the theoretical and practical challenges of using 360° video and multi-camera systems in qualitative research. Drawing on a multi-year research–practice partnership in secondary classrooms, we share insights for implementing a range of recording technologies. We will address theoretical issues, including how each configuration shapes what becomes visible, invisible, and analytically possible. We will also address practical challenges researchers encounter when working with complex video data, including: managing massive file sizes, synchronizing multiple videos, and establishing data storage and processing workflows. Through hands-on activities, attendees will collect, process, and analyze their own 360° footage and practice troubleshooting common pitfalls. We invite researchers at all levels to consider how 360° video and multi-camera set-ups can support responsible, rigorous, and theoretically informed inquiry.
