#986: Negotiating Power Through Interactions: A Focus on Discourse in RPPs

Thu Jun 18, 4:15 PM–5:45 PM · Outdoors

Research-practice partnerships (RPPs) aim to disrupt power hierarchies between participants. However, little is known about how in-the-moment discursive moves impact power. This study conceptualizes how power is negotiated through interaction by analyzing conversations among stakeholders in the context of an RPP centering instructional improvement in mathematics. An integrated framework was developed and applied to conversation transcripts. Findings indicate that RPP members enacted discursive moves to negotiate and share power, supporting the expression of teacher voice.
