Value interventions may support broader participation in CS by relating how each student’s personal interest may intersect with computing. We conducted a quasi-experimental study to understand how value-based homework prompts impact the way students engage with a social robotics program. We conducted thematic analysis on student homework responses and found that if value-based prompts are prompted towards problem solving, students relate CS more deeply to their personal experiences of designing and coding social robots.
