To make conceptual room for designing for and researching learning in urban agricultural spaces in Philadelphia, we argue for the conceptualizing urban gardens – in all their plurality – as educational technologies themselves. To explicate the conceptualization, we depict garden infrastructures – social, material, and cultural – and their alignment to a larger theorization of education technology. Considering urban gardens as educational technologies in Philadelphia offers a window into their possibilities as keystones in learning pathways for children, youth, and adults across the city.
