#719: Designing Learning Environments to Absorb Social Risk
Thu Jun 18, 4:15 PM–5:45 PM · Outdoors
All learning environments involve risk, and patterns of risks can create profound and inequitable exclusionary pressures, inviting in some participants while excluding others. This conceptual paper introduces the idea of absorbing social risk and three design moves: framing, creating structures, and enhancing visibility. The paper considers the nested and uneven ways learners face risks, considers recommendations for designers, and calls for further investigation.
