#718: Queering STEM: Envisioning Disruptions to Normativity

Thu Jun 18, 4:15 PM–5:45 PM · Outdoors

Though commonly perceived as neutral and unbiased, undergraduate STEM contexts are steeped in exclusionary practices. Situated in an interdisciplinary elective course, designed as a queering of STEM, this qualitative study examines students’ past experiences with normativity and what they envision as possibilities for transformation. Findings surfaced themes depicting students’ lived experiences in STEM, with implications for design.
