This study investigates how Speculative Futuring (SF) can create space for high school students to critically engage with environmental challenges and envision alternative futures for their communities. Our findings show that students drew on multiple forms of knowledge such as lived experiences, and scientific information to shape their understanding around addressing socio-environmental challenges such as water quality, and accessibility of the natural resources. Artifacts developed during SF reflected their understanding of current socio-ecological systems while envisioning possibilities for the future.
