This paper introduces the Motivation (purpose and curiosity)– Ability (knowledge and skill development)– Transfer (application and synthesis) framework as a curriculum design model that integrates the cognitive rigor of explicit instruction with the engagement and relevance of project-based learning (PBL). The framework was implemented in a six-week interdisciplinary unit, “What Conditions Are Necessary for a Nation to Foster a Renaissance?”. Student artifacts demonstrated conceptual transfer, systems thinking, and evidence-based reasoning. Findings suggest that MAT provides a scalable design logic for rigorous, coherent, and relevant project-based learning.
