#975: Designing at the Speed of Trust: Unearthing Implicit Values and Vibes

Thu Jun 18, 8:00 AM–9:30 AM · ALP 1110

Design Based Research (DBR) is a slow, tedious, and overwhelming process. Over the years of their existence, DBR research teams develop into tiny publics where new ways of being and doing develop. While tools such as conjecture maps were developed to support documenting the relationship between theoretical and design-based conjectures, we have found that the conceptual level of these conjectures do not quite capture our idiosyncratic axiologies, or the values, flavor, and vibes that became implicit or taken for granted. In this paper we share reflections from the Choreographing Science project, describing how the choice to end the project by designing something new helped us (1) reveal taken for granted design values and principles that we developed during our 4 years of collaboration, (2) work at a faster, more confident pace, and (3) create something shareable with stakeholders we care about.
