#701: Posthumanizing Creativity with GenAI: Assemblages in a Design Workshop
We present a case study of a five day design workshop in India where middle school students produced linked artifacts: hero characters, songs, short videos, while working with GenAI tools. Grounded in posthuman-sociomaterial perspectives and current Learning Science conversations on hybrid intelligence, we treat creativity as emergent forms in human–AI–material assemblages. Using diffractive reading of observations, semi-structured interviews, we craft posthuman vignettes to make nonhuman participation visible. Findings suggest that students take relational stances toward the agent, entanglements “glow” around near-constraint extensions and hard-constraint violations, and boundaries of authorship blurs as students engage with GenAI tools in creative acts.
