#1019: Examining High School Teachers’ Frames in Science Teaching

Fri Jun 19, 8:00 AM–9:30 AM · ALP 2600

Using interviews analyzed through comparative case study methods, the study examined themes in two high school science teachers thinking about the topics they’re teaching and synthesized their frames of the topics from these themes. Results revealed distinct frames: one anthropocentric, emphasizing human success, and the other ecocentric, centering planetary interconnectedness and success. The collective nature of these frames and the role of culture in their shaping for the teachers is discussed.
