#1382: LumiBuilder: A Chatbot-Building Tool for Hallucination-Aware AI Literacy
Hallucinations, or confident but incorrect responses generated by large language models, present a critical challenge for young learners who increasingly turn to AI for schoolwork and everyday tasks. LumiBuilder is a web-based chatbot building tool designed to help children understand these limitations by constructing their own chatbots and testing how design choices influence model behavior. The tool integrates hallucination awareness scaffolds, including confidence displays, fact checking, model comparison, document verification, and repeated questioning, to support inquiry-based exploration of AI reliability. This interactive demonstration introduces LumiBuilder’s core features and the design principles that shaped its development. Participants will explore the tool, observe how hallucinations emerge through varied prompts, and discuss implications for AI literacy, youth and AI interaction, and the design of learning environments that promote verification, reflection, and calibrated trust in AI systems.
