#1374: Show Your Work: A Gentle Introduction to Jupyter Notebooks for K-12 Educators
We are developing a suite of free, web-based, asynchronous introductory Jupyter notebooks designed for K-12 educators with little to no prior experience with programming or with computational notebooks. In contrast to typical “intro notebooks” which focus on technical features, the Show Your Work project builds on theory and findings from the learning sciences and science education to introduce computational notebooks as epistemic tools within specific school subject domains, guiding educators to explore the questions: What role can notebooks play in my specific classroom? What does it feel like to conduct an investigation using a Jupyter notebook? What epistemic and communicative practices are foregrounded and backgrounded by computational notebooks? These materials are likely of interest to ISLS members who work in computing education, computing-integrated STEM education, and/or teacher education, as well as to members who wish to learn more about computational narrative as a new area of focus within the learning sciences.
