This study examines the integration of generative AI to cultivate critical AI literacy and epistemic understanding in pre-service teachers. The AI-generated lesson plan is conceptualized as a boundary object, compelling collaborative groups to negotiate and externalize their disciplinary knowledge and reasoning, considering the 5E inquiry model and discourse structure. A multi-modal analysis is utilized to quantify and qualify shifts in epistemic engagement, serving as a robust testbed for necessary design principles in critical collaboration with intelligent systems.
