#881: The Impact of Conversational Agents on Children’s and Parents’ Engagement During Shared Reading

Wed Jun 17, 4:15 PM–5:45 PM · Outdoors

Engagement is an important aspect of parent-child shared reading interactions. However, little is known about the nature of engagement patterns while parent-child dyads engage with AI-powered CAs in at-home reading contexts. In this study, we analyze diverse observable patterns of engagement during shared reading. We examine the overall impact of an artificially intelligent conversational agent (CA) that augments parent-child reading interactions by observing and analyzing engagement patterns between parents and children as they read together.
