Human-AI Collaboration & Teaming Generative AI & Large Language Models Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning Identity, Belonging & Learner Agency
Generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) extends human performance but may diminish users’ sense of ownership. Drawing on research in CSCL and sociocultural theories of agency, we analyzed 559 naturalistic conversations from the LMSYS-Chat1M dataset, and coded for collaboration (e.g., Externalization, Co-construction) and agency (e.g., Critical Vigilance). Deep collaboration and high agency were infrequent but related. This suggests that CSCL research can inform the design of agency-supportive human-GenAI interactions.
