This research explored grade 4 students’ novel figurative language to identify promising ideas in knowledge building community discourse. A mixed-method approach—semantic analysis using Word2Vec and qualitative coding—was adopted for the analysis. Results showed figurative language use involved conceptual reframing across science and everyday life domains and embodied perspective-taking. Our next step is to incorporate similarity to resource material and investigate how ideas containing figurative language supports the community discourse.
