#1151: Dropout and Success in Online Higher Education: A Comparative Analysis of Students in Brazil
Despite the significant growth of online higher education, challenges persist regarding how to foster engagement and address dropout rates. Therefore, personalized learning has been identified as bridges to success. This paper examines whether the design of reasonable accommodations based on personalized learning affects the success or dropout rates of students in undergraduate courses at an online higher education university in Brazil. By tabulating and analyzing the public database of student enrollment status before and after the design changes, we observed that personalized learning was associated with higher success rates and lower dropout rates, suggesting that Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and Personalized Learning (PL) can mutually benefit a diverse student population.
