#95: Upper-Elementary Students’ Baseline Ideas of Computer Vision
Wed Jun 17, 4:15 PM–5:45 PM · Outdoors
This study examines how 14 upper-elementary students conceptualize computer vision as an entry point into AI literacy. Students completed an open-ended drawing task to elicit baseline ideas. Analysis revealed three patterns: intuitive feature noticing, symbolic image matching, and early mechanistic reasoning. Mapping responses to a Computer Vision LP showed that students with prior AI exposure reached higher levels, while those without were at lower levels, underscoring the need to tailor instruction to students’ prior experiences.
