#866: Partnering with Purpose: A Research–Practice–Developer Model for Evidence-Driven Innovation

Wed Jun 17, 4:15 PM–5:45 PM · Outdoors

This paper argues that genuine partnership among researchers, educators, and developers is essential for educational technology to produce meaningful learning outcomes. Drawing on the design and implementation of PAL (Personal Assistant for Learning), a research–practice–developer collaboration in early mathematics, the paper illustrates how learning-science frameworks can guide product design, generate actionable evidence, and center equity from inception. Results from two implementations (a randomized pilot and a subsequent multi-site dose-response study), demonstrate effect sizes that markedly exceed meta-analytic norms for technology-enhanced instruction, underscoring that when innovation is grounded in learning science and authentic partnerships, it becomes an amplifier of human teaching and learning rather than a replacement for it.
