#576: MAIa: A Generative AI Simulation to Support Situated Teacher Learning

In this conceptual design poster, we explore how generative AI, and specifically large language models (LLMs), might be configured to support practice-based teacher learning. We present an AI-based student simulator, MAIa, used in an online, asynchronous mathematics methods course for elementary pre-service teachers. MAIa offers a bounded, practice-based, interactional encounter that pre-service teachers can revisit, dissect, and (re)interpret, thereby fostering reflective, interpretive, and ethical reasoning central to pedagogical judgment.
