#432: Exploring Strategies and Difficulties in Elementary Students’ Data Visualization Construction

This study used Epistemic Network Analysis to examine 6th-grade students' (n=39) strategies and difficulties in constructing data visualizations via CODAP. Findings show that students who successfully completed data visualization tasks utilized resourcing strategies, seeking help from teachers or peers, whereas non-completed students relied on deducing and trial-and-error strategy. These results emphasize the importance of verbal activities and social interaction in developing elementary students’ data visualization literacy.
