This paper examines its thirty-year history as a complex adaptive system using network analysis to map the changing relationships among theories and methods from a small sample of 177 manually coded papers from the International Conference of the Learning Sciences. Findings suggest a possible shift from early separation between quantitative and qualitative paradigms toward a more complex multi-method theoretically diverse landscape. These preliminary findings offer a new perspective on the field's developing intellectual identity.
