This case study presents computer science-infused curriculum to support middle school students in developing their data science literacy and computational thinking skills in a community garden. Using the storyline model to embed data science and computational practices, students investigate anchoring phenomena using programmable sensors, then provide data-informed recommendations to master gardeners on how to improve food yield. Students progress from collecting and analyzing data towards developing personally-relevant narratives, connecting community priorities through data storytelling.
