This paper describes the development of The Learning Game, a tabletop roleplaying game designed to help master’s students in education better understand learning theories and the theorists behind them. Over the course of a semester, a team of six master’s students and one faculty member collaboratively designed and play tested the game with other students at their university. While the prototype was well-received, the process and product provided further evidence for the barriers to game-based learning in university settings.
