Generative AI & Large Language Models Human-AI Collaboration & Teaming Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning Identity, Belonging & Learner Agency
This case study explores how learners form and negotiate relational ties with Generative AI (GAI) chatbots and human peers during two reflective writing activities. We found learners formed a hierarchical, task-oriented relationship with GAI chatbots, while maintaining an equal relationship, reciprocity, and socio-emotional connections with peers. These findings reveal learners’ strategic negotiation to balance writing agency and socio-emotional needs with human-computer collaborative environments.
