#505: Rooted: The Influences of Ancestral Archives with Femme Youth of Color

Youth of color activists desire communal spaces to process the mourning and despair that is overwhelming due to the colonial violences communities are navigating. To explore the possibilities of engaging in community-based research projects that are attuned to grief, we convened a Youth Participatory Action Research Project, comprised of femme youth of color working in youth organizations that focus on social justice. Informed by Black feminist frameworks that invite us to “honor the precious wisdom within (Lorde, 1984; hooks, 2014) this project centers storytelling and art alongside Morrison’s (1987) understanding of (re)memory, to explore how complex ancestral knowledge informs youth’s understandings of healing and justice.
