Systematic reviews on the application of AI technologies in STEM Education recommend the use of age-appropriate AI/ML tools in primary and secondary school settings, in contexts that appeal to students’ interests. In this pilot we incorporate a new modality (body movement) and tool (BBC micro:bit) into an AI/ML unit for young learners to understand how they engage with machine learning concepts. Students articulated novel uses for ML tools, drew connections to other practices, demonstrated metacognitive awareness, and described their roles as designers. These findings highlight the value of scaffolded, collaborative, embodied learning designs in supporting emerging AI literacy.
