This study proposes design principles for an AI-supported chatbot that facilitates problem-based learning in undergraduate nursing education. Drawing on constructivist learning environment, transactional distance theory, and scaffolding theory, the design emphasizes authentic problem-solving, interactive communication, and multi-dimensional instructional support. The proposed chatbot features differentiated personas to provide cognitive, procedural, and social scaffolding, promoting learner engagement, self-directed learning, and clinical reasoning.
